Explosive Atmospheres - Part 7: Equipment protection by increased safety "e"

UL 60079-7

1 Scope

This part of IEC 60079 specifies the requirements for the design, construction, testing and marking of electrical apparatus with type of protection increased safety "e" intended for use in explosive gas atmospheres. This standard applies to electrical apparatus where the rated voltage does not exceed 11 kV r.m.s. a.c. or d.c. Additional measures are applied to ensure that the apparatus does not produce arcs, sparks, or excessive temperatures in normal operation or under specified abnormal conditions.

1DV.1 Modification of the first paragraph, replace with the following:

1DV.1.1 This standard specifies the requirements for the design, construction, testing and marking of electrical apparatus with type of protection increased safety "e" intended for use in Class I, Zone 1, Groups IIA, IIB, and IIC hazardous (classified) locations.

This standard supplements and modifies the general requirements of IEC 60079-0. Where a requirement of this standard conflicts with a requirement of IEC 60079-0, the requirement of this standard takes precedence.

1DV.2 Modification of the second paragraph:

1DV.2.1 Replace "IEC 60079-0" with "UL 60079-0".NOTE Increased safety "e" can provide Equipment Protection Levels (EPL) Mb or Gb. For further information, see Annex i.

1.1DV.1 Addition of 1.1DV.1.1:

1.1DV.1.1 The U.S. version of IEC 60079-7 does not include requirements for Group I electrical apparatus.

1.2DV.1 Addition of 1.2DV.1.1:

1.2DV.1.1 Where references are made to other IEC standards, the referenced requirements found in these standards shall apply as modified by any applicable U.S. National Differences.
