This test method describes procedures to determine t he attenuation of single-mode optical fibers in the vicinity of the hydroxyl ion (OH(-)) absorption peak (water peak) near 1385 nm.
The water peak attenuation of a single-mode fiber is determined from either a direct attenuation measurement (Method A) or a computed attenuation coefficient based on measured attenuations at other wavelengths (Method B).
This test procedure makes use of the following test procedures and computational techniques:
Method A: FOTP-78.
Method B: FOTP-78 and a method similar to that shown in the Appendix A of this procedure, which meets requirements for "Conformance Inspection
