Foreword

This standard is derived from TDMA/CDMA TFO standard [4.] which in turn is based on [9.]. This is CDMA Tandem Free Operation (TFO) standard version 2.0. It is modified to support the Selectable Mode Vocoder (SMV) [5.] and codec mismatch resolution and optimization.

The present document introduces the Inband Signaling (IS) protocol between Transcoder/Rate Adapter Units for speech traffic channels for the Tandem Free Operation (TFO) of speech codecs within the digital cellular tele-communications system.
