1.1This test method covers determination of the penetration of semi-solid and solid bituminous materials.

1.2The needles, containers and other conditions described in this test method provide for the determinations of penetrations up to 500.

Note 1-For guidance in preparing and testing emulsion residue specimens for this test method, please refer to Section 35 of Test Method D244.

1.3The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.
